Do what Thou Will shall be the whole of the Law
Tarot Cards have been used for centuries. Those who practice the Arts and Science of the Occult have longed used them to uncover the secrets of the Universe, so that they may know the path they are on.
Contrary to popular belief, Tarot cards are not used by the serious student to just read the past, present, and future of a person’s life. It is especially seen in Hollywood movies that typically a couple goes to a reading, one is skeptical and one is worried because the reader pulls out a Death Card for their future.
Those who have been using Tarot for a while will tell you that there are usually several things wrong with that mistaken belief that happens so often in the movies.
The biggest glaring mistake is that the Death card does NOT represent an actual, literal Death. It usually represents a transformation, a dying of the Old Self, or something along those lines.
Another issue I find, and think it is obvious, is that readings are not done that fast, and the one reading the Cards does not come up with the perfect prediction as fast as Hollywood pretends they do.
Finally, I feel like the most important aspects of the Tarot Readings is missed, and that is the Spiritual Journey they actually represent, and the mental capacity it takes to get there.
So toady I want to start a series on Tarot Cards and the Occult. This will be a long series as I will be going over every single Tarot Card from the Deck, and will also be reviewing some more popular decks (full disclosure, I am a little biased over the Thoth Deck!).
For today, I wanted to go over what I fell are the hidden meaning of the Tarot in the Occult. Before I do, though, I am going to leave a video here for you to watch. That way you can get a better understanding of the Tarot, and from a point of view that is not mine.
Tarot Cards and the Past
I think that Hollywood, and many others, forget that Tarot Cards do actually read from a person’s past. It is very common to see this in readings.
That being said, it is usually not this big elaborate thing that goes into every detail of a person’s life. In fact, there are some who can read Tarot so good that they can read the past lives of a person!
Usually, reading the past of a person not only serves as a validation, but it also serves as a way to be able to piece together what is going on with the person Spiritually. This can be used to understand the rest of the reading, and how to interpret what to do afterwards.
One should never get caught up on the readings of the past, The whole of Tarot readings should not focus on the past, as the person who is getting those readings does not need to be stuck in a past mentality, but needs to move forward in their own journey.
Tarot Cards and the Present
Once again, this aspect of the readings is usually overlooked in popular culture. It just is not seen as something relevant and interesting enough to deal with. Boy are they wrong though!
I would say other than the spiritual interpretation of the Tarot (which I will be getting into later down the article), this is the most important part of Tarot Readings.
To truly understand where you are at in the present, is to grasp what it means to be enlightened. The Buddha spoke about this a lot. We need to focus on what is here, what is now. Sure we learn from the past, and we strive for the future, but we do that one step at a time in the present.
The goal of any student of the Occult is to reach Individuation, which is commonly known as the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel. This goal is reached by understanding the where you are in your spiritual journey now, and what steps need to be taken to prepare yourself mental and physically to reach that goal.
Do not underestimate the importance of the Present moment! Be very thorough in your readings of this aspect of a person’s life.
Tarot Cards and the Future
Now we are getting to the part that everyone knows about. The mysterious future that the Tarot cards give to all that are curious to know. So can the Tarot actually read a person’s future? Yes!
The future aspect of the Tarot, though, is not as defined by the rules of logic as popular culture would have you believe, though. It does not always tell us the distant future, nor does it always tell us what is going to happen in the immediate future.
Tarot cards can be very ambiguous on what they tell us. Each card is crafted with the full powers of the Universe and therefore, what they see, we may not always see, or even understand.
Tarot Cards and the Spiritual Realm
I am a firm believer that Tarot Cards are not used primarily as a tool to read the lives of other people! The Tarot is a great tool for the Solo practitioner for several reasons.
The most common of these reasons, and the one I really want to focus on, is the fact that Tarot cards lead to a better understanding of one Spiritual Self.
Each card holds within it a great mystery that is waiting to be solved. When one reads their own Tarot, they are opening the Unconscious mind and bringing it together with the Universe. This may sound like a strange way of putting it, but that is truly how it happens, as within the Collective Unconscious, there are the Archetypes which are personified within the Cards.
So do not forget the importance of reading your own Tarot! It can be enlightening and helpful in reading your goals, whatever those may be.
Today I started this series in hopes that I will help bring forth a better understanding of what the Tarot is. It is not a simple task, and so breaking it up into sections is the best way to go about it.
My hope is to dispel some common myths about Tarot, and to help relieve much of the fear and dread Hollywood and popular culture has painted the Cards with. If you want to know more about the Tarot and its history, click here!
