Tarot and the Occult- Lord of Prudence

Tarot and the Occult- Lord of Prudence

Do what Thou Will shall be the whole of the Law,

Today we will be looking at the Lord of Prudence, the eight of Disk in our series Tarot and the Occult. This card will seem, to some, a bad thing, and to others, a good thing, so it can go either way! It’s a matter of perspective.

We have been over all the minor disk cards up to this point. We have seen a majority of cards come out to be positive, and two of them are pretty negative. This card has a sort of balance to it.

I will be using the Thoth deck, and the symbolism from the design in it. I love this deck and the man who made it is the whole reason I am into the Occult now. If you are interested in why I prefer the Thoth deck over the other two decks that I do have, as well as other decks check out my post here!

Also, Crowley’s Thoth deck uses disk instead of pentacles. So if your deck has pentacles, that is okay! There really is not difference, merely a linguistic preference I believe.

So with that all out of the way, let’s look at the eight of disks!

Lord of Prudence- Just be Prudent!

Many people think that Prudence denotes a negative thing, because it means we have to be careful and mindful with what we are doing. But why is that such a bad thing? I don’t think it is!

This card is telling us that we should be prudent in our endeavors! Because this card falls in disks, it more than likely means something that is within the material world.

This should not come as a warning to most people though. Should we not already be prudent in these areas? If we are not, then yes, this card is warning us to do so!

That is why it can come as a good, or a bad thing to different people. I feel it more of a positive reminder of how we should be in life. I suppose the card could be telling us to be extra prudent as well, which is okay to me.

Design of the Card- Tarot and the Occult collide!

I love the way this card looks. It is a beautiful card in my opinion. Te background is amazing. The yellow is bright and to me that denotes a brighter future if you are prudent.

The card is connected to Malkuth in the Tree of Life due to its five segments in the fruit and the five petals that surround it. In numerology and Kabbalah, ten is the number of Malkuth and the Earth. That means tangible things will be manifest through it.

The fruit looks nice and ripe, which is a sign of fertility. Five is also a number of fertility. So this card represents fertility based off its symbolism and pictures.

So the symbolism is not a bad as what many people think. In fact, I believe if we are prudent, then we will be fertile in our endeavors, and I think that is what the card is saying.

The tree itself stands for us, as a human person. The fruit is protected by the leaves on the tree, which is to denote that we are being careful with the fruits of our labor.

Sign of Virgo- the Prude Woman

Virgo is seen as a prudent sign sometimes. She is intelligent and knows her limits and what she needs to do to get things done. It makes sense that she would be the sign over the Lord of Prudence!

I am considered a Virgo, though I don’t feel like it is very accurate. I’m almost the exact opposite. I’m more of an Aries or Leo personality wise. So when I see Prudence I’m not always the happiest person ever.

However, I have learned to live in a prudent manner because of my kids. That’s another reason I feel this card is so important. It helps us realize we have to be careful for those we love. We are not the center of the universe.

Sun- The Strong Ruler

The Sun is the Ruler over the Lord of Prudence. How fitting! The sun is seen as a provider and sustainer. In many religions, the Sun was the Father and the Moon or the Earth the Mother.

The Father is prudent so that he may provide for himself and others in times of distress and trouble. This card is strongest during the New Moon, when the moon is not as strong a force on the Sun, and it is weaker when the Moon is full, which takes away from the power of the sun.

No matter what the phase of the moon, though, it needs to be clear that one should be prudent when this card is drawn! To not do so could cause some type of material issue problem.

Conclusion- Be a Virgo, Be Prudent!

The big take away from this card is that you need to be prudent. You need to be careful what you do with some of the material things in your life.

This card could be giving you a helpful warning to be a little extra prudent, and that is okay. Take the advice and learn from it.

So as you can see, there is nothing to worry about with this card. It’s not as bad as it seems!

Before I go, if you are still curious about the deck that I prefer to use its called the Thoth Deck! I highly recommend it to everyone reading this. It’s a great deck!

    Great post.

That card is beautiful. I’ve been feeling the need to be more prudent lately so maybe it’s a sign I found your post? I also think being prudent and mindful is a good thing. We really shouldn’t be mindless in life. Too much can go wrong. We should have a purpose in the decisions we make. Maybe being prudent is remembering our purpose when making decisions? You made me think. 🙂

I would like to give some tips about the tarot.

Many, many people are attracted to the possibilities of self-awareness, divination and spirituality about it. For those who have a strong interest but know nothing about Tarot, what do you do to get started? Most Tarot decks will come with some sort of guide or basic instructions but it is important to know that it is important to follow these steps to start their journey with Tarot. Shuffle, reorder, repeat – Pick Any Tarot Spread – Practice Makes Perfect.

Hi Jessie, what an awesome niche. There is plenty of information on your website and I really like the lay out of your site. One thing I would suggest is maybe adding more pros and cons just to help the review and give a bit more of an insight on why it would make a great choice or not.  Still like I said you have provided plenty of content and I think it’s a rather unique subject which is a good thing and the layout is really professional. I hope my feedback helps you and keep up the good work.
